Milda was hauling a burlap bag with her machete and the morning harvest of beans. Her friend (above) collected stalks of leaves she planned to use to make brooms to sweep her patio. As we walked down the road, Milda said she harvests crops on the mountain farms for a cooperative in her community named Jose Marti. When she turned onto a narrow dirt path through the forest, she pointed to her home - a modest, tin roof hut in a beautiful clearing beneath a mountainv. And she invited me to follow for coffee. Despite her hard work and subsistence life on the mountain, she smiled and laughed readily. (see photo of her preparing coffee over a wood fire inside the home and serving it to me.) « less
