Even though flights to Santiago, Cuba were infrequent this spring, only a few per week, my March 15 flight from Cancun, Mexico to Santiago was eerily empty. There were only a handful of passengers on the new, clean 240-seat Aero Aerobus flight.
This foreshadowed the reality on the ground in Santiago and Baracoa - with few tourists, and restaurants and casa particulates (B&B’s) virtually empty. Notably, my return flight to Cancun on March 29 was sold out - every seat taken. The passengers were presumably desperate Cubans seeking to flee the country. « less
