Uganda Cotton { 218 images } Created 11 Apr 2012

In northern Uganda, the cotton ginnery at Gulu Agricultural Development Company has experienced rapid growth in an impoverished, war-weary, subsistence-farming region. The Gulu cotton ginnery was begun in 2009, following the ouster of Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) and new regional peace. South African entrepreneur Bruce Robertson undertook the business, seeking to build on his successful cotton gin operations in western Uganda.

I photographed for the Acumen Fund, which is providing Gulu Cotton with bridge loans to pay farmers for their crops.

Photos 1-161 are people and operations at the Gulu Cotton Ginnery. Photos 162-218 are cotton farmers and their families in their fields and villages.
